About isylumn

Grandiose, I know, but I knew the stories I wanted to write - years of drawing monsters had spun my own mythology and I hoped for something comparable and real. The book I wanted to write would fulfill a fading desire and breathe life into the chimeras I had sketched into my notebooks. That visual mythology was collectively called "The Mortui Philosophies." I had tried animation, but the repetitive work only produced frustration. So much in fact, I joined the 'sane' world and switched careers into Internet Technology. Secure, I had stopped painting and focused on a very rewarding career. After a few years lacking expression from my creative self, my Pazuzu Trilogy took its first breath.

What is the Ninth

Ninth Revision of Matthew Sawyer's Pazuzu Trilogy

The Ninth is my Ninth Revision of my Pazuzu Trilogy. I said not more than a few weeks ago I had no plans to write these books again, then I merely changed the opening sentence… The Pazuzu Trilogy still begins in the Preface, now with the words -

“Rage makes the priest’s fat hands quiver.”

I know some readers are grateful I finally escaped using the the word “Outrage” forthright. That itself was a minor change. The Pazuzu Trilogy is intact and it’s the same tale, but there are obvious changes. I brag and say the story reads “like the wind.” It does, I beg readers to enjoy the bleak story. Someone I know said it looks professional. He may have just said that, because he often says what he thinks people like. Nevertheless, driven by passion and pride for my work, I am very pleased. Undoubtedly, there are typos that have escaped me. Alas, if readers would only try reading me again and point at my arrogant flaws, I’d correct those post-haste.

This Ninth Revision is what I tried to do – and failed – with my third and fourth revisions. In those revisions, I tried to convert the original Pazuzu story into one told in an Active Voice. I pushed and rushed myself and typos and grammar errors vexed me to no end. I eventually surrendered and went back to the original manuscripts.

The fifth through eighth revision of my Pazuzu Trilogy return to the Passive Voice present in the original manuscript. They were scrubbed and preserve the significant additions I had made in subsequent revisions. I was quite happy with the eighth – it’s refined and told in a Passive Voice. That doesn’t attract readers, which is ultimately my goal.

The Ninth Revision comes back to the goal I had for the third – an epic tale told in an Active Voice. If you’ve tossed my ebooks aside because you were frustrated by my stubbornness, please try me again. This revision is for all of you – you haters. C’mon, I’m trying to tell this story…

Pazuzu Manifesation, the first book in Matthew Sawyer's Pazuzu Trilogy

These books also have new covers. The Ninth Revision specifically displays the silhouette of a two-faced Pazuzu splattered with the blood of Awarwan – an alien god and the demon’s nemesis.

There’s gimmick at play in the images – the blood drops and the pairs of wings number the order of the book in the trilogy. For instance, the cover of Pazuzu Manifestation – the first book in the trilogy – displays one drop and a single pair of wings. I hope that helps visually-minded folks keep the books straight!

I Had A Conversation With A Rooster The Other Day – flash fiction

“I had a conversation with a rooster the other day.

Like all roosters do, he brags about the hen house. I implore him flat. “What about your babies, dude? What happens to them? You know we eat those eggs, right?”

The rooster scowls at me cockeyed and tells me I am Satan to poultry. The bird curses at me and sh*ts on my car.”
