In high school, Matthew Sawyer organized his friends for an annual Halloween presentation – the “Bats in the Attic” haunted house. The experience nurtured an addiction to horror. Fascination with role-playing games led to the compilation of his own original grimoire of monsters. Of course, the stories of HP Lovecraft also introduced the concept of preternatural “alien gods.”
Through painting and drawing classes at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, Matt was obsessed with the pantheon of monsters in his sketchbooks. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Drawing, he moved from Wisconsin to California, hoping to market his surreal art.
He also sought other avenues for producing and presenting art, especially that which included monsters. After the chore of animation classes, and abandoning that arduous avenue, Matt rediscovered his penchant for writing. So, of course, he writes about monsters. Pazuzu awoke!
